Hot water electrical

Electric hot water circuits, heat pump electrical, element and thermostat repairs. I handle the electrical side under EC 9715. Plumbing and refrigerant work is routed to licensed partners.

What I handle vs. what gets routed

I handle all electrical work under EC 9715 — circuits, wiring, elements, thermostats, switchboard upgrades. Plumbing connections require a licensed plumber. Heat pump refrigerant work requires ARCtick licensing. I can coordinate multi-trade jobs if needed.

What I handle

Electric hot water systems need a dedicated circuit — they draw significant power and need proper protection at the switchboard. Many older Morley homes have undersized circuits or outdated wiring for their hot water.

I also do fault finding on existing systems. Elements burn out, thermostats fail, timers stop working. Often it's an electrical fix that gets your hot water running again without replacing the whole unit.

Heat pump hot water systems are becoming more common. The electrical side is similar to a split system — dedicated circuit, proper protection, sometimes a switchboard upgrade to handle the load.

Common hot water electrical jobs

  • Electric hot water circuit installation
  • Heat pump electrical connection
  • Element replacement
  • Thermostat repair/replacement
  • Timer installation
  • Switchboard upgrade for hot water

Electric hot water swap in rental

Old unit died, landlord wanted like-for-like replacement. Same location, same type — I did the electrical disconnect/reconnect, plumber swapped the tank.

Noranda

Heat pump installation

Converting from gas to heat pump. Ran a new circuit from the board, installed proper protection. Heat pump installer handled the unit and plumbing.

No hot water in older home

Element had failed. Replaced the element and tested the thermostat — hot water restored without needing a new system.

What to send me

SMS me a photo of your current hot water system (or the new one you're getting), what's happening, and the suburb. I'll let you know if it's electrical, plumbing, or both.

Common questions

Can you install my new electric hot water system?

I handle the electrical side — the circuit, wiring, and switchboard work. If it's a straight electric-to-electric swap, I can often do the full job. For gas-to-electric conversions or plumbing changes, the plumbing side gets coordinated with a licensed plumber.

What about heat pump hot water systems?

Heat pumps need an electrical circuit like any electric hot water. The refrigerant side is similar to an air conditioner and may need an ARCtick technician for commissioning. I handle the electrical, and can coordinate the rest if needed.

My hot water isn't working — is it electrical?

Could be. Electric hot water systems have heating elements, thermostats, and sometimes timers that can fail. I can check the electrical side. If it turns out to be a plumbing issue (tank, valves, etc.), I'll let you know and you can call a plumber.
