Switchboard Upgrades
The switchboard is the heart of your home's electrical system. If yours still has ceramic fuses or rewirable fuses, it's time for an upgrade. I replace old boards with modern units that have proper safety switches, surge protection, and room for future additions.
Signs Your Switchboard Needs Attention
Ceramic or rewirable fuses
The original fuse technology from the 60s and 70s. No safety switches, limited capacity.
Frequent trips or blown fuses
Could mean overloaded circuits or underlying faults that a new board would handle better.
Burning smell or scorch marks
Urgent - this indicates arcing or overheating. Don't wait on this one.
Planning solar, EV charger, or aircon
Major additions often need more circuits than an old board can provide.
Selling or renting the property
Buyers and renters expect modern safety standards. An upgrade adds value.

Switchboards in Morley Homes
Most Morley, Embleton, and Bayswater homes were built between 1965 and 1985. The electrical standards of that era were different - ceramic fuses were acceptable, safety switches didn't exist yet, and homes needed far fewer circuits.
I've upgraded hundreds of these boards over the years. The job typically takes 4-6 hours, and power is only off for portions of the work. By the end of the day, you've got a modern board that'll serve the home for decades.
For rental properties, a switchboard upgrade often makes sense when you're already doing compliance work. I can combine it with RCD and smoke alarm requirements for a complete safety package.
